Two items instead of one: the EU has made an important decision about hand luggage on Wizz Air and Ryanair flights.

The European Parliament on Tuesday, June 24, approved new rules for hand luggage on board airplanes. Now any passenger can take two items of hand luggage for free. This decision was made after a complaint from the European Consumer Association against certain low-cost carriers.

According to the new rules, a passenger can have one item with dimensions no larger than 40x30x15 cm and a second with total dimensions of up to 100 cm. Transporting these items will be free of charge up to a weight of seven kilograms. However, the changes have not yet come into effect and must be agreed upon with the EU member states before final approval in July.

The Consumer Association referred to a decision by the European Court, which prohibited additional fees for hand luggage, defining 'reasonable requirements' concerning size and weight. The new rules are an important step in easing flights for passengers and will compel carriers to change their passenger service conditions.

From now on, passengers on flights in the EU can confidently take more hand luggage without additional costs, making travel more comfortable and convenient for them. This will also require airlines to review their rules and adapt to new standards, increasing competition and improving service quality for passengers.
