The Doomsday Clock has been moved one second closer to midnight: what does it mean.

The symbolic Doomsday Clock has moved closer to catastrophe
The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists has updated the Time on the Doomsday Clock, moving it one second forward. According to The Time, this reflects the danger the world is extremely close to a potential catastrophe.
Scientists stated that this change signifies for the first time in history the emergence of an extraordinary threat requiring international cooperation to overcome. They hope that by 2025 world leaders will acknowledge the crisis threatening humanity and will take appropriate measures to reduce the hazards associated with nuclear weapons, climate change, and the misuse of biological science and new technologies.
It is worth noting that among the reasons for the clock's change is the war between Russia and Ukraine, which threatens the use of nuclear weapons at any moment. There is also a growing risk of nuclear catastrophe as currently more than 30 countries are considering the possibility of developing their own nuclear arsenals, undermining efforts to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
The Doomsday Clock, launched in 1947, is a symbolic indicator reflecting how much time remains until nuclear and other catastrophes threaten humanity. Since 2019, the clock's hands have been continually moved forward, symbolizing a growing threat. In January 2023, the hands were moved another 10 seconds closer to midnight due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and increased risk of nuclear escalation.
