The Swiss Minister of Economy urged citizens to drink more wine.

The Swiss Minister of Economy has called for increased wine consumption in the country due to a decline in alcohol consumption. According to the publication Le Monde, Ukraine is experiencing a decrease in wine consumption, especially among the youth. The Minister of Economy and Agriculture expressed concern over this situation, citing statistics showing a 16% decline in the consumption of Swiss wines in 2024. Overall, global alcohol consumption last year fell to its lowest level since 1961, reaching 214 million hectoliters.
To improve the situation, the head of the Ministry of Economy urged locals to drink more wine to increase the consumption of alcoholic beverages in the country.
The politician's proposal has sparked mixed reactions. A member of the Green Party expressed outrage, noting that the Ministry of Health is making significant efforts to reduce alcohol consumption while the federal advisor suddenly called for drinking wine.
Chemicals in wines may pose health risks
New research has shown that wines produced in Europe contain toxic substances that can enter food and be harmful to health. Attention has long been paid to trifluoroacetic acid, which is found in wines as a byproduct of PFAS and can be dangerous for consumers.
Ukrainians are losing interest in wine, while the situation with wine consumption in Switzerland is also not the best. The Minister of Economy is urging Swiss residents to drink more of this alcoholic beverage to support the production sector in the country. However, wines are facing criticism due to the presence of toxic substances that may be harmful to consumers' health. Therefore, the issue of wine consumption in the context of a healthy lifestyle remains relevant.
