The Ministry of Justice assessed the potential of involving convicts in the ranks of the Armed Forces.


According to the Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine Yevhen Pikalov, between 20% and 30% of the total number of convicts in the country can join the Armed Forces.
Currently, more than 8300 convicts have already joined the Armed Forces, and another 1000 applications are under consideration. Additionally, 100 women have been mobilized.
An important reserve for strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities
It is noted that these actions can become an important reserve for strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities, especially in connection with the ongoing aggression of the Russian Federation. Yevhen Pikalov emphasized that this process will contribute not only to replenishing the ranks of defenders but also to resocialization through the demonstration of civic responsibility.
'We consider this process not only as a way to replenish the ranks of defenders but also as a mechanism for resocialization through the highest manifestation of civic responsibility. The Ministry of Justice and the State Criminal-Executive Service keep this issue under constant control, ensuring transparency and objectivity in considering each application,' - Pikalov emphasized.
Total number of convicts and persons held in custody in Ukraine
According to the data, the total number of convicts and persons held in custody in Ukraine amounts to 37 thousand individuals. However, not all of them can join the Armed Forces due to health conditions or committed crimes.
